New Year, Fresh Intentions: Prioritizing Physical Activity and Meditation

2022, a new year… Let’s face it, we often start off with the grandest intentions each year and set goals and resolutions we may never reach or that will simply fizzle out. Why not look at what you're already doing and love, and just sprinkle in a little more to push yourself a bit further?

Yoga, barre, lots of outdoor time, and newly incorporated meditation is what powers the our team through. It is so easy to get bogged down in the hectic schedule of being moms, owning a small business, designing fine jewelry pieces, as well as marketing, networking and volunteering. Oh and let’s not forget all that comes with being amazing spouses to two very lucky men!

We have made a commitment to take time each day for physical activity and mindfulness. At home base in Los Angeles, I (Jess) will continue to start each morning with yoga stretches and then hiking outdoors with the best pup, Theo. This year I might just go an extra half mile to push myself.  And meanwhile in Seattle, I (Jen) will continue to attend classes at a local barre studio, ride my bike, and get outside to hit the ski trail in order to start the year out right. Our already established workout routines may be different in style, but all build strength, help hearts and minds, and set the tone for the day, which ultimately helps us live balanced lives.

We both happen to live in beautiful parts of the United States, with an abundance of outdoor activities, from walking to paddle boarding, hiking to skiing and even sailing sprinkled in regular rotation. We are inspired by the beauty we find outdoors and strive to get outside every chance we get. Many of our designs have drawn upon the beauty in our surroundings, from mountains to the freshwater.  If anything, that fresh air does the lung and soul a lot of good.

This year, we plan to continue our commitment to moving each day. As a small business, there is so much on the to-do lists, but the fullest potential won’t be reached unless time is set aside to care for the body and mind each day. Because we do not live in the same city, we spend many hours on Zoom calls talking about our business, meeting with potential retailers and suppliers, creating designs, and setting goals for the coming weeks, months and year. We recently thought that it would be a nice idea to have a little fun on our Zoom calls too! So we have set a goal to Zoom together as we exercise! Imagine a nice yoga, stretching, or meditation session with your good friend and business partner who lives in a different city, to break up the business focus. What a nice reset!

Meditation is a practice that has been on our radar for some time now, but we both have started really making a point to practice meditation a few days a week with the goal to expand this to every single day. Just a few moments of meditation a day are said to help gain a new perspective on stressful situations, build skills to manage stress, increase self-awareness, focus on the present, reduce negative emotions, increase imagination and creativity, and increase patience and tolerance. When we have incorporated meditation into our day, we can 100% fully support these claims.

As humans, we may simply miss our workouts because there is just too much to fit into the day. So in 2022, accountability is key and we will check on each other to be sure some form of movement takes place as well as a bit of time for meditation! Feel free to hold us accountable too! Afterall, we are two moms lucky enough to be following our career dreams, with the support of the Wolf and Badger community, all while being actively involved with our families, our own communities where we live, and the organizations we have teamed up with to make an impact when we give back a portion from each sale. We know that to maintain living our dream, we must take care of our bodies and minds. Here’s to a great 2022!
